There are several resources (brochures, websites, videos, workshops, programs) available for both healthcare providers and patients on increasing physical activity among older adults. Download a comprehensive list (pdf) of these resources here.

The following Educational Partners have helpful resources on their websites:

  • The American College of Sports Medicine
  • The Active Aging Partnership
  • The American Geriatrics Society
  • The American Physical Therapy Association
  • The National Center on Physical Activity and Disability
  • American Academy of Family Physicians
  • The President's Challenge

In addition, several other National Blueprint Organizations have helpful resources:
  • Centers for Disease Control
  • The Administration on Aging
  • Active Living Every Day
  • Human Kinetics Publishers
  • Active For Life
  • The Presidents Council on Physical Fitness
  • The National Council on Aging
  • International Council on Active Aging
  • National Institute on Aging
  • Steps to a Healthier US

The most important resource for healthcare providers is to locate LOCAL resources of physical activity. Healthcare providers should contact their local Council on Aging, YMCA, or hospital fitness center to find out about their specific programs to increase physical activity among older adults.

The First Step to Active Health Training Workshops for Professionals are available for individual facility training. Contact Phil Page at for more information.
